A

lec's journey in education has taken him from the United Kingdom to CIS accredited IB World Schools in Colombia, Chile and Montenegro. Alec is originally from the UK but describes himself as a global citizen after spending the last 10 years working in international schools. After working for six years as a journalist he changed careers and became a teacher. He has experience with UK and IB curricula and is a consultant, workshop leader, and examiner for the IB.

Alec believes that the most important factor in developing excellence in children is developing the whole child through a caring, nurturing environment. He expresses his philosophy as "they don't care what you know until they know that you care". He received his joint major Bachelor’s of Arts in Secondary Education and Geography, with minor title in Outdoor Education, and Qualified Teacher Status from Manchester Metropolitan University in England; a Postgraduate Certificate in Management of e Business from the University of Paisley in Scotland; his MA in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama in the USA, and has completed his certificate in International School Leadership with the Principal’s Training Centre.

Alec has taught KS3 and IGCSE Geography, IB Diploma Geography, Economics, and Theory of Knowledge. A keen outdoor sportsman, Alec has led students on several expeditions including a six-day jungle trek to Colombia’s “Cuidad Perdida” and a week-long whitewater raftingexpedition through the Chicamocha Gorge. Alec has a long history of working with the Duke of Edinburgh's/International Award. He enjoys cooking, reading, a variety of sports, travelling and learning.

Alec is married to Patricia and they have a 9-year-old daughter, Francesca, who is a student at BSQ.
